Training

By the end of their program, HQPs, that is, graduated students and postdoctoral fellows (PDFs) enrolled in the oN DuTy! Program will benefit from additional training with the goal of: “… increasing the supply of highly qualified personnel (HQP) who are “employer-ready” and can generate immediate results after graduation, improving job readiness as an immediate benefit to the industrial employer.”

There three main areas of training:

  • NDT-1 – Industrial Internship (II): HQP’s will spend part of their time (20 % minimum) in the industrial partner’s premise it will be established as a 1-credit mandatory course.
  • NDT-2 – Professional Skills (PS): There are two schemes proposed by each university and pre-approved by the oN DuTy! Program Committee: (1) local university courses, and (2) MITACS Step Workshops. These courses correspond to 3-credit.
  • NDT-3 – Technical Skills (TS): Traditional and emergent NDT material and formalized as a one 3-credit course called NDT-3. These courses will be delivered directly by the academic applicants during day 2 and 3 of the Annual General Meeting (AGM). Prerequisite training (basic NDT, materials, damage processes, assemblies) will be offered on-line before  the AGM. Each HQP will be offered a student exchange in his/her co-supervisor institution to provide multi-modal NDT hand-on training facility thereby gaining new TS skills, new ideas, and added experience.
